The leather industry is one such player that often remains in the shadows. But how exactly does leather production affect our water bodies and environment? Water Consumption
Reducing our water consumption is another important goal for the production of our leather products. By utilizing lime recycling plants and soaking water recycling systems, we not only minimize the release of chemicals and harmful substances into the water but have also significantly reduced our water consumption. From an initial 400 liters/m², we have already lowered it to 290 liters/m² and are now aiming for a further reduction to 169 liters/m².
Environmental Impacts
The use of chemicals in tanning raw hides has long been a concern. However, we have developed innovative approaches to improve this aspect. By reducing the salt content and minimizing the amount of wastewater, we have managed to reduce our salt consumption by an impressive 25%. Additionally, we have reduced sulfur consumption in the tanning process by 10% through continuous improvements. Another important step is the recovery of 95% of solid waste using sludge filters from wastewater. Additionally, our chromium recovery and water treatment plants help minimize environmental impacts.
Use of Renewable Energy
As a company committed to sustainability, we actively utilize renewable energy for the production of our great bags. A portion of our energy needs is met through solar energy, resulting in an impressive annual reduction of 300 tons of CO2 emissions. We continuously advocate for the expansion of these installations to further reduce our reliance on municipal power supply.
